I was trying on a variety of nail polishes at Sephora today…and it just so happened that I liked the look of all the colors together that I decided to slap on a topcoat and call it a keeper. Summer mint, 2 shades of orange sorbet, burnished gold, and green glittery snakeskin somehow went together wonderfully.
And they just so happened to perfectly match my new 80%20 Molly wedge sandals in seaweed…a recent Gilt purchase (also available here). I just can’t take them off – and Portland’s recent spate of 96+degree weather has demanded them!

I’m sure some of my readers may be wondering why I’ve been M.I.A. for a few days lately…but there’s been a reason for that…
I’m so incredibly excited to announce that I am the newest intern at H.D. Loft Studios!!

The search for an internship, or a way to begin my career here in Portland in video and animation production, has dragged on for more than 2 and a half years for me. In the meantime, I’ve been channeling my energies into this blog, which has grown by leaps and bounds…but I always hoped that it would be more a hobby for me and not my sole source of income. Since having my son I’ve wanted to go back to video production as a career, but just couldn’t seem to make things happen here.
Finally, this is the first step. 
H.D. Loft Studios is a brand-new Portland-based production studio set and prop and wardrobe rental house with an amazing collection of vintage items, a full-capacity wet/dry production stage and photography cyclorama, and a superbly talented crew behind it. (With mind-boggling credits throughout the music video and fashion industries!!) I can’t even put into words how humbled I am that they thought me a good enough fit to bring onto their team! I’ll be interning with them until the end of Summer, and I literally bounce out of bed every morning thrilled to be able to go to work.
So far I am working on social media, brand strategy, photography, and prop styling for them, but as they grow I hope to assist in any way they have need. It’s so exciting to see how things develop!

P.S. I’m still going to be updating Chic Steals and continuing posting here, though I’m still trying to figure out how to work around my schedule and still produce timely content. I hope all of you will forgive me if I am not so regular in my posting schedule and there may be days when I’m just unable to update.

Dads (and men in general) tend to be super-hard to shop for…my hubby, for instance, prefers gifts that are ultimately practical and utilitarian rather than romantic, decorative, or handmade. (Another Men are from Mars moment I suppose…) So each year I do my best to find something that I think he will use and appreciate (though sometimes I just give in and buy his favorite edibles when nothing else will do!;-)
For all the Dads in your life…and Granddads, and Dads-to-be…here’s a few items that might prove useful, or even (hopefully!) greeted with a truly heartfelt exclamation of “Ohmygosh that’s just what I wanted!” From something for the techie to the gourmet connoisseur, from the old-school gamer to the would-be DIY-er…this list may just be able to spark a few gift ideas for your favorite dude.

Available at both Michael’s and Jo-Ann Fabrics stores (though the items available may vary per store), the line is divided into 4 “styles” of components: Noir, Boho, Glitz, and Glam, with different-colored stones and metals that are mix-and-match. The components are designed to work together and to be easily assembled into finished jewelry.

Yup, it’s Thursday again, and here I am with last weeks DIY weekly roundup! I’ve been super-slammed this week (and have some really awesome personal news that I can’t wait to share with all of you!) but first – let’s see some creativity!
I’m so excited to have found Trash to Couture, who’s done some incredibly awesome DIY tutorials on her blog. Love her Zipper Tee Tutorial – such a great way to add a little bit of edge to a basic tee.
Take any old, oversized blouse and make it cute and cropped with the help of Chictopians Lipglossandblack. Just a little shape update is all that’s needed to make it more 2012 – and a major staple in your Summer wardrobe!
NEW DIY community alert! From the folks at Burdastyle, Kollabora is a Pinterest-style inspirational community, chock-full of resources, projects – AND the materials for said projects, instantly available to buy. DIY + E-Commerce? Awesome! (And this week they’re requesting people to upload a photo holding, wearing, or using a handmade project (either made by you, or made for you) to Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #kollabora, and every day starting June 11 they’ll choose 3 of their favorites to score great prizes from Wool and the Gang, Colette Patterns, Mood Fabrics, and more!)
I had no idea that Karmaloop was sharing DIYs on their blog! So far, it’s been DIYs that have already been trending in the blogosphere, but they’re definitely a blog to add to your DIY reading list! (And try out their DIY Wrapped Curb Link Bracelet for a quick and easy summer project!)
Speaking of bracelets, Cheap Chic Obsession shared a tutorial for a DIY Drop Chain Bracelet, which is a little twist on the standard chain bracelet. Add a pendant, and you have a dainty pendant bracelet – which can also double as a necklace!
Update an old clutch by painting a chevron pattern on it and sealing it with Mod Podge, with the help of Short of Something. LOVE how fun and summery the result is!
I’ve also come across another blog that posts DIY’s from time to time…DARK-WINGS-CITY, the blog of designer Pedro Korshi. He offers up a number of tutorials (where the steps aren’t usually photographed, but are detailed out nonetheless), and his aesthetic is pure and minimalist. Try out his White Sandals with Clear Straps idea – not hard to follow at all, and a fabulous update for Havaianas for warm weather!
And yet another DIY blog to add to my reading list: Crimenes de la Moda, which is an amazing Spanish style and DIY blog! You can check out all her fashionable DIYs here, as well as try out her DIY Neon Chain Handbag project. Wrap that chain and stick it on a bag for an edgy pop of color!
