My good friend Alexa Raquel Casciato, AKA Little Warrior, is an amazing musician and up-and-coming tour de force in the world of music. She has assisted in starting a brand-new post series here on Chic Steals curating monthly original playlists for your to stream on Spotify, add some background music to your space, mellow out to, listen to while working on your latest DIY project, and add a little music into your life.
Here’s what she says about this month’s playlist:
One of my favorite things about summer are the gorgeous and perfect summer nights… clear skies with stars scattered, the warm glow of late night bonfires, and community with friends and family. This month, I was inspired by the warmth that July brings. I feel that the guitar is the perfect instrument to mimic this warmth with its soft tone and embracing harmonics. I’ve included a few of my own guitar tracks from my earlier years in the midst of songs by some of my favorite groups. Check out the discography of the other artists on this mix for songs that will soothe your soul as your whittling away on your latest DIY project.

Crazy Wind, founded by designer Chiyo Takahashi, utilizes authentic kasuri textiles directly from Japan to produce modern clothing with a distinctly Japanese flair. Sourced from family-run factories in remote regions of Japan, kasuri textiles are a type of ikat fabric, dyed with indigo, that take about 2 months to create, all executed by skilled craftsmen and craftswomen. Chiyo, who was born in Japan but moved to America since she was a teenager, works with her mother to source the unique fabrics. The Crazy Wind name comes from a Japanese word “Fuukyo-“, which means insanity, a mad man or a person obsessed with his/her own art. The word “Fuukyo-“ is constructed with two characters, “Wind” and “Crazy”. Chiyo found a calligraphy drawing her late father made of “Fuukyo-“ while cleaning out a closet – and loved how he redrew the word “Wind” with an angry looking gorilla character. She writes that “It was as though [my father] was saying ‘Be crazy and go your own way!'”

She is here today to share a quick makeover tip for old, tarnished chain jewelry. Take it away, Kate!
Hi y’all! I’m so excited to be guest writing here at Chic Steals. I adore accessories (the DIY Gold Leaf Head Chain... I die) and simple and quick DIY projects, so I wanted to share with you a recent project that was both. 
Five or six years ago, I got this great necklace with big metal links. It was right as long necklaces were becoming all the rage and I loved the statement of it. But as styles evolved, and wear and tear tarnished it, it got a little stale. So I decided to give it new, natural life by bringing raffia onto the scene.
Raffia Wrapped Necklace Makeover
Supplies: Assortment of Raffia Ribbon, Twine and Other Wrapping Materials / Old Necklace in Need of a Makeover / Tacky Glue / Scissors
A Little Tip: I had several raffia ribbons and twine already but I picked up a couple more varieties in the gift wrap section of my local craft store. I also got some floral raffia, but it was too brittle and didn’t wrap nicely, so stick to the ribbons and twines!
1.) Clip a 5″ to 6″ strand of one of the ribbons.
2.) Using tacky glue, affix the end of the ribbon to one of the chain links.
3.) Apply a 1/2″ or so strip of glue to the chain link.
4.) Start wrapping the ribbon around the chain link, pressing it into the glue as you go.
5.) Reapply glue and keep wrapping until the link is covered.
6.) Trim excess ribbon and glue down the end.
Repeat for each link, varying the type of raffia ribbon or twine you use until each link is wrapped!
You could make so many variations of this necklace, from using different colored raffia to only using one color, to using all twine. Have fun with it. I’d love to see your pictures when you’re done!
