That title was a mouthful!:-)
Rabbit-ears have infiltrated the fashion fray since Marc Jacobs threw them down the Louis Vuitton runway for Autumn/Winter 2009-2010. Though the black lace version has been donned and DIY’ed in numerous reincarnations since then, the scarf headband (with a little wire inside to hold its shape) is the grown-up version of this enduring trend. Take a favorite cotton handkerchief and make your own in a few simple steps right at home, and hop on outta there in style.

These unfathomable sunglasses make me begin to think so.
The spike-holes are hand-drilled! And these sunglasses can become a headband!! And for a mere $220 U.S. Dollars, they can be yours!
Um…thoughts?

I love comments on my posts! (I mean, who doesn’t love feedback?!) The positive comments that say “thanks for your hard work” or “I really like this” always put me in such a good mood throughout the day. They give me the fuel to sit down the next day for hours on end crafting another post. Comments and feedback (even if some of it is constructive criticism) really help me target my blog to the needs of the people who are reading it, so I’m not just throwing useless words out there into the ether.
And as all of you fellow Bloggers know, sometimes you just get weird comments. Spam comments usually represent a fraction of them – and the spammers, when certain methods don’t work, often employ new tactics to get their comments permanently on your blog.
But this is a new one. It had my ROFL for awhile. (click to read)
It seems the Russian mafia has an inordinate amount of time on their hands.:-)

I’m thinking of starting a fashion/diy blog. What tips would you give to newbies about starting their blog, as well as how to get their blog publicity?
Congratulations!
First and foremost I would say you need to figure out what you want with your blog. Obviously if you just want to share photos of things that inspire you or post a few outfit photos because you just want to share with your close friends (and maybe some strangers), your approach will be different than if you want to be, say, the next StyleBubble.
Each type of blog has a pretty different approach to it, whether you focus on posting outfit photos, or designer interviews, or magazine scans, or party pix.

But one tried and true piece of advice is to post as often as you can, on a regular schedule. Like once every 3 days if you can manage it (even scheduling your posts in advance if you can write a couple posts all at once). You want people to keep coming back.
And commenting on other people’s blogs is key. (Lately I haven’t been following my advice because I’ve just been so busy, but once upon a time I was responding to every single comment, and commenting on other’s blogs as I surfed the web.) Don’t leave silly comments that could be made by anyone like “I like your dress!”, leave comments of worth, somehow tying things back to your blog, or asking the blogger to visit. Be nice! Word gets around on the web if you’re flaming people.
And clear photos are ESSENTIAL. There are many blogs that use few, if any, words to describe – and instead say it all with pictures. Use a digital camera and learn how to do the basics when it comes to cropping, resizing, and adjusting the brightness to your photos.
Style Sample Magazine [www.stylesamplemag.com] (the magazine for and about bloggers), is a wonderful resource, so I’d highly recommend you read through all the past issues. Probably everything you ever wanted to know about blogging is covered there!

As you guys probably noticed from an earlier post of mine, I’ve been following along with The Uniform Project for the past year.
Though more than once I’ve thought, “Gosh, why didn’t I think of that first?”, the idea for the site is pure genius. Raising awareness for a little to unknown cause through a fashion dilemma: how to style the same dress differently for every single day of the year. That’s 365 days, wearing the same garment daily.
Could you do it?
Besides also tying in to the concepts of eco-friendliness (same item in different outfits; stretching what you have to work in different situations) and charity – it’s an idea that hinges on the explosion in popularity of the street style blog and photo log. Plus, it’s FABULOUS marketing for the designer of the dress. Research and the theory of effective frequency has shown that a consumer has to be exposed to an image about 3 times before the ad is retained in the subconscious; and some time around the 12th-13th exposure the consumer begins to feel the product has value and begins to want it. (Though the rule of 13 was coined back in 1885 this idea is often still quoted today.)
The first time I saw the Uniform Project dress, I thought “basic little black dress; kind of cute but nothing too special.” The second and third times, I probably thought the same thing.
This is the new version of the dress available, in organic cotton + silk.
As I kept returning to the site and seeing Sheena’s myriad of styling methods for the same garment, over and over again, I began to want the dress. What an incredibly persuasive piece of subversive advertising!! (How many of you started to want this dress too?)
When it did finally go on sale I balked at the price [$150]. (I know, I do try to support struggling designers when I can, but I couldn’t really justify a purchase of the dress at that price.)
So when they also offered the PATTERN (for the new and improved U.P. Dress), I snapped it up. Yes, the pattern is a little basic and I could easily just purchase a similar pattern from the sewing store and alter it, but I did want to contribute to the cause of helping to send impoverished Indian children to school. And in meaner economic terms $20 is much easier to justify to myself (and Hub, since we share a bank account!) than $150.
I can’t WAIT until it arrives! Just in time for Fall. (As you can see, I vacillate between the selfless, heartfelt need to help those less fortunate and shallow, rampant consumerism. Yay!)
And you know what color I’m going to sew it in? Why, black of course!
I’m particularly unimaginative like that.

On formspring.me a reader asked what my 3 favorite earrings are. Well here they are! (Sorry I deleted the question by mistake when I went to post it to Blogger.:-(
These are usually the three that I reach for regardless of what outfit I’m wearing.
The oversized rhinestone earrings (from Forever21; no longer sold but a very similar pair here) I wear when I want to go crazy over-the-top glam…and they look surprisingly fun paired with an old t-shirt and jeans. Plus, for a really formal event (not like I have many to go to!) they’re perfect with an LBD for some retro glam.
The large hoops are light as a feather and I love the tiny star detail at the back. They’re for when I want to be a little more dressed up but more classic. (bought in Japan)
The small gold hoops are a recent purchase in Tokyo (LaForet Harjuku though I also found them in another store along Takeshita street there) – I really love secure-post small hoops in gold since I don’t have to take them out in the shower and can sleep with them in, and they still look chic and dressed-up with a number of different outfits. I love the subtle studding on the surface. Alas, I found that they have too much nickel in them for my sensitive ears – and the post is a bit too thick, so I’m still debating what to do. After wearing them for 3 days straight I got a massive infection in my right ear that took more than a week to clear up. *sigh* Sorry, maybe that’s a bit TMI!
I also tend not to wear earrings that much, since while my hair is short I wear it covering my ears a lot, and it seems kind of pointless to put in earrings when they can’t be seen anyway…
What earrings do you gravitate to? Hoops, studs, sparklies?
