Like really stay away. Like we’re talking a blockade and police barricade.
Just a few things I picked up the other day at my local Tar-JAY.
The designer for their jewelry must be new (since I can’t find anything online confirming this, I’m just assuming…) because this stuff rocks. It’s the only way how I can explain how their jewelry (not the designer-collab stuff, just the regular costume jewelry sold at Target) sometime during the last year went from um, “nice” to “omigawd I want every piece right. NOW!!”
I love these edgy cuffs stacked together. Or apart!
And these rings, which can also be worn separately. Not too crazy about the rhinestone one, which looks kinda cheap IMHO, but I was thrilled to find the studded one since I’ve been on the hunt ever since Forever 21 stopped making their version. I also love the chain ring.
The nail polish is, too, from Target – O.P.I’s “Here Today, Aragon Tomorrow.” A dark jade green that is black in some lights and evergreen in others. It looks so sinister, even more so than I think black does. But I digress.
Ahh, the piece de resistance. This Stone Bib Necklace just looks so opulent and it elevates any outfit to a major ensemble in a flash.
Plus Target just got Temple St. Clair jewelry in, and I’m loving the ladies-who-lunch feel to their bauble drop earrings and jumbled charm bracelets. Who’s with me on this one??! 😉
Might just have to make a trip back, if I can get around the self-imposed barricade…

Welcome to the first of my posts in the Style It Chic! series. In this series I will be taking one item or trend and showing you how to emulate that look – for much, much less than what you might pay at retail. I’d love to hear your feedback on what you think of this style of post!
The denim shirt trend is still lingering as we head into the next season – and I love it! It’s been so long since light denim was “in” – and though I know I’m late hopping on this bandwagon, it’s amazing how versatile and chic this piece really is. I thrifted my shirt (who am I to buy new???!) and altered it to fit me better and look more flattering – which is essential in pulling off this trend well. (Tutorial coming tomorrow, chickees!!)
For now, here are 3 ways to wear the denim shirt:
1. Denim-on-Denim
As seen on the Chloe Spring/Summer 2010 runways. Shirt buttoned-up but worn loose, paired with jeans in a different hue. Sporty watch and retro sunglasses. Kind of 80’s, kind of Jay-Leno-cool (if that’s even possible??!) – it can look really masculine, so add some girly accessories and do that hair! (I, of course, didn’t – and you can see that the look is pretty questionable on me. What Not To Do! hehehe)
2. Cute Cowgirl
D&G – style! Fluffy, peasant-style skirt paired with the shirt (tucked in or tied, of course!) and brown suede or leather accessories. Western never looked this good.
3. Layered Edgy
(Chanel-style Tanktop: DIY [my quickie tutorial here]; Leggings: Forever 21. Shoes: Charlotte Russe from awhile ago.)
Shirt worn open with cuffed sleeves. Loose long tank, slick leggings, textural shoes. An edgy outfit provides the perfect counterpoint to the rough-and-tumble feel of the shirt.

The other day, I received my prize for the Create Couture Challenge.
A huge box came to the door, and when I opened it up, at first I was confused, trying to remember when I’d ordered anything Alice + Olivia from Payless.
But when I opened the shoebox I was just stunned!
It was packed to the brim with DIY materials, accessories, and fabulous items!
An Alternative Apparel dress, 2 belts, 2 chiffon rose trims, 2 huge metallic flowers, a gold chain-link necklace, a thin flower headband, a large wooden belt buckle, 2 kinds of sweater trim, iron-on black metal mesh trim, black chain, iron-on anchor appliques, iron-on black rhinestone trim, a beautiful embellished bib necklace, and a lace-wrapped bead necklace! I am so excited and thrilled with all this…as you can probably guess, I’m going to do a DIY extravaganza with all this coming up soon!

So it was February, #$#$@’in freezing, snowing, and still the most fabulously fashionable people turned up in droves. Since I’m not there this time around to document, maybe you’d like to see those people from last time (in February, for the Autumn/Winter 2010 shows) who were just so awesome-looking, I had to snap photos of them.
Suit: Self-designed
A familiar face in the tents season after season for the last 10 years, the former U.N. representative (!) now works as a stylist to politicians and Wall Street players. He turned out at the Ecco Domani show to support fellow Nepali Prabal Gurung (fashion’s new IT-boy, according to The Daily). Last season spotted wearing a Sharpie-decorated suit at the shows, Upadhya came up with the painted suit as his central concept for this most recent Fashion Week. “I always think if Matisse was a designer instead of a painter, what would his clothes look like?” he said, in reference to the white suit with the patches of lime green paired with the yellow shirt and pop art tie. He hopes to launch a line soon that reflects his fashion philosophy, and says that he can’t choose a favorite from anything in his closet because “they’re all my babies!”

Where do you get your fashion inspiration?
Since I’m the Creative Director of ChicIntution.com, I’m constantly scouring the web for ideas, so it’s no surprise that my fashion inspiration comes from there as well…I’d also have to commend my mother for walking me and my sisters through the basics of style at a young age, her teachings beat any book out there!
Favorite designers?
They differ from season to season, but mostly Preen, Phillip Lim, Stella McCartney, and Sass & Bide. Undiscovered gems that I’m digging are: Unique (a sub-brand by Topshop) and Brigid Catiis.
Any advice for other people on how to be fabulously stylish like yourself?
My only advice would be to follow your instinct. Fashion is about self-expression!

Take a chance, switch things around a bit, and use your imagination! Give it some thought instead of just throwing things on.
