Were there any mentions or tributes to Alexander McQueen during fashion week?
Not while I was there. (The first day I attended the shows was Sunday, Feb 14.) As you probably know on Feb. 13 the Fashion for Relief/Haiti show opened with a verbal dedication to him, and closed with 7 of his designs being worn by supermodels and his longtime friend Daphne Guinness, her face swathed in tulle. London Fashion Week started on the 19th with a dedication to him by the Chairman of the British Fashion Council and a tribute wall mounted in the tents. I’m afraid I was not privy to anything during New York Fashion Week – except an issue of The Daily being dedicated to the late designer.
The fashion world seemed to still be reeling from the news during the week of February just after his death.

do you like the style of harlem pants?
Hmmm…that’s a tough one. I’m going back and forth on it. (You mean harem pants, right?) I think that you need to have a really specific body type to look ok in that style of pants…too much booty/hips and the “harem effect” is lost because there isn’t enough fabric; too little booty and the fabric bags too much and you look like you’re wearing a diaper. Ideally they’re probably not a good look for women who have hips. Maybe a minimally-draped crotch with looseness throughout the pant works best and will endure longest – something like the Kurta pant from JUMA for instance is not a silhouette I find particularly flattering. I think when crotch = knee-length, then NO!

As you spent time living in Japan, wonder if while there if you ever heard anything of an old Japanese myth of a person's personality being determined by their blood type?
Yes – of course! Not a myth – it’s the Japanese version of the horoscope. (Of course they also subscribe to the zodiac-based horoscope, as well as the Chinese zodiac.) I don’t believe in horoscopes – never have. BUT…Upon meeting me, people in Japan always asked me what blood type I was, and I said “guess!” You know what they guessed? A! Always, A. And I *am* blood type A. Hub is blood type B, and apparently is the quintessential B. I always thought there was no truth to the belief in blood type determining personality, but goshdarnit if we both don’t typify that ol’ Blood Typing [myth?]. And I was also surprised that in the U.S. babies are not bloodtyped in the hospital – I had to specially request it when Lil Tot was born, since I and all the Japanese inlaws were just dying to know. [He is O, just like my brother.] I wonder where that saying “Type A Personality” comes from, hmmm?

December 21 – and I fall between a Sagittarius and a Capricorn depending on how you calculate the zodiac chart. (I’m not one for horoscopes, tho.):-)

Have you decided what you are going to take to wear to NYC when you go to fashion week?
Yes! I am making a small collection of clothing & jewelry to take – some sheer, some formfitting…I’ll be cold, but layers are a must as inside the tents it’s boiling hot with all the people!
