Inspired by all those chic lacquer boxes I’m seeing everywhere lately like on Joss & Main (and that just so happen to cost a fortune), I crafted this with some great supplies from Darby Smart. And the kit is now available for everyone to buy – only $29!This would be an amazing graduation gift for someone special, a wonderful birthday present, or a cute addition to a bookshelf or vanity.
Got any old clothes you’d like recycled? H&M is currently accepting donations of used clothing- and it’s for a great cause.
Actress Olivia Wilde, in her crime-fighting guise of Princess Layers, has teamed up with H&M and DoSomething.org to urge America’s youth to help save the planet by recycling their old clothes. From now through June 20, teens and college students are encouraged to comb their schools and communities for castoff garments—all brands and all conditions are welcome—to drop off in garment-recycling bins at any H&M store. H&M will bundle off these clothes to a recycling facility, where the fibers will be recovered for export or reprocessing.
“Clothing Comeback” participants who send a photo of themselves depositing their unwanted clothing to DoSomething.org will be entered to win a $10,000 scholarship, on top of receiving a 15 percent discount off their next H&M purchase.
More than 85 percent of readily recyclable textiles land up in landfills every year, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. That’s 1.1 million tons, or the equivalent of over 70 billion T-shirts.
Spread the word, and help keep clothing out of landfills. Donate to resale or charity shops (like Goodwill!), or for the unwearable, ripped, dirty, or completely un-resellable…bring them to an H&M for recycling and re-use. You can be a SuperHero too!
Spring is finally here – and that means Spring cleaning! I always head to my closet first and foremost to do a major purge this time of year. It’s cathartic and frees up my mind to get rid of lots of old junk that has accumulated – and that I no longer wear and enjoy. And what do I do with everything I pull out of that overstuffed madness? I head to Goodwill and donate it all – since I know it creates jobs and helps my community: one of the best ways to create a local impact by investing back into it. (more…)
The crossing at Hachiko in Shibuya remains pretty much unchanged since last year.
After spending 3-and-a-half weeks in Tokyo in February and March this year, I wanted to share some of the photos I took. Since the reason we went was for me to take care of my mother who was hospitalized, I wasn’t able to travel anywhere else with my family or spend much time outside of my mother’s apartment or the hospital. So this time around I didn’t take a large number of photos like I had in previous years, but I still was able to take a few shots. Here is my travel diary from Japan during early Spring this year:
