do you like the style of harlem pants?

Hmmm…that’s a tough one. I’m going back and forth on it. (You mean harem pants, right?) I think that you need to have a really specific body type to look ok in that style of pants…too much booty/hips and the “harem effect” is lost because there isn’t enough fabric; too little booty and the fabric bags too much and you look like you’re wearing a diaper. Ideally they’re probably not a good look for women who have hips. Maybe a minimally-draped crotch with looseness throughout the pant works best and will endure longest – something like the Kurta pant from JUMA for instance is not a silhouette I find particularly flattering. I think when crotch = knee-length, then NO!

As you spent time living in Japan, wonder if while there if you ever heard anything of an old Japanese myth of a person's personality being determined by their blood type?

Yes – of course! Not a myth – it’s the Japanese version of the horoscope. (Of course they also subscribe to the zodiac-based horoscope, as well as the Chinese zodiac.) I don’t believe in horoscopes – never have. BUT…Upon meeting me, people in Japan always asked me what blood type I was, and I said “guess!” You know what they guessed? A! Always, A. And I *am* blood type A. Hub is blood type B, and apparently is the quintessential B. I always thought there was no truth to the belief in blood type determining personality, but goshdarnit if we both don’t typify that ol’ Blood Typing [myth?]. And I was also surprised that in the U.S. babies are not bloodtyped in the hospital – I had to specially request it when Lil Tot was born, since I and all the Japanese inlaws were just dying to know. [He is O, just like my brother.] I wonder where that saying “Type A Personality” comes from, hmmm?

Sorry – I know I wrote that I would share the tutorial for this a little while ago, and I actually did put together a how-to. But after a period of reflection, I’ve decided not to, and my reason is that I still consider Norwegian Wood an emerging label…Angie is doing very well for herself, but she is still up-and-coming, and I feel it would be morally wrong for me to share a “here’s how to rip off one of her pieces” with everyone. I figured out how to make my own version after looking at photos of it online – but had I the money to spend, I would honestly have bought her version. I want to do what I can to encourage emerging, small-time designers, and I feel posting such a tutorial would defeat the purpose, and ultimately be hypocritical of me. I really want to be loyal to my readers and accommodate requests for tutorials, but as a struggling designer myself, I would not want someone else to post a “here’s how to make one of her pieces” tutorial. I hope you understand, and if you decide to stop following my blog or choose to go somewhere else, I understand.
